After running the 12 Days of Gifts for six continuous years in the UK, and running the promotion both in the US and the UK last year, Apple has decided not to run the promotion this year. Apple had previously given away 12 gifts, ranging from iOS apps, music, film, and books over the 12 days after Christmas. First noted by MacWorld, Apple has discontinued its tradition for the 2014/2015 year.
Three days after Christmas and the app is nowhere to be found. MacWorld reports from a reliable source that we’re definitely not seeing the “12 Days of Christmas” app this year.
There may be several reasons for the change in tradition. One, the App Store is flooded with free apps. Though debatable, developers have a larger market for free, or “freemium” applications. Secondly, Apple has recently switched it’s App Store buying language for free apps. Going from “free” to “get”. And the most notable reason is the whole U2 Album fiasco.
What are your thoughts in regards to Apple breaking its traditions?
