The concept behind EatMe is fascinating yet simple and we found it to be both challenging and fun-filled. We started off as a small little fish born into the ocean where there are bigger fish ready to eat you up for lunch. It is this you’ll need to avoid.
At first, you will represent a fish so small that few of the bigger fish will even bother to contemplate eating you. The task ahead is clear: you need to bulk up so that you can start eating other fish. Once you get some size and bulk forming you can start eating other fish, but that said, you will become a target of other fish, many of which will be much bigger than you.
What we really liked about EatMe was the multi-player platform it served. Yes, those other hungry and nasty fish are not just some computer-generated or game-driven fish, they are controlled by other real users in real time.
The ocean is colourful and wonderfully crafted, but we were a little disappointed the fish seemed to be more like a cartoon character rather than some real lifelike fish breed. That said, the characters were well developed and would probably appeal to the younger players.
The concept of the game was clear: eat or be eaten. It really was a dog eat dog experience (or should that be fish eat fish?). As you start off your life as a tiny fish you are reasonably safe but the bigger fish will come looking for food in your direction once you start to bulk up. At first, eating stuff like seaweed gives you some mass. Next up, you will need to eat some smaller fish to make your own character grow; all the while avoiding the bigger fish who are always on the lookout for a tastier meal.
As you eat, you start to get rich by accumulating coins. By using these coins you can gain up to 15 different new fish into your school. The multi-player experience is really what makes this game as you just know there is a real person controlling that fish that is trying so desperately to eat you alive. And by contrast, you must try and eat them in order to survive.
EatMe is all about attack and defence at all times. There can be as many as 100 players involved in the game at any one time and there is a leader board league which displays the top ten fish avatars in the game at that time. Our aim: to get on it and start eating!
