clot’s been nearly two years since Apple has gotten rid of Google Maps on iOS, in favor of Apple Maps. Today, Apple is bringing Apple Maps to its Find My iPhone service on iCloud.com. It looks like Apple is supplying the new mapping system for all users, according to 9to5Mac.
Previously, Apple Maps was only available on Mac and iOS devices, integrated in the system. But this rollout could potentially mean Apple may be planning a web-based version of Apple Maps. Allowing any user to access its mapping system.
“Apple started slowly rolling out the feature to its iCloud beta site for select users earlier this year before pulling it, but it now seems to have replaced Google for all users of iCloud.com’s Find My iPhone feature,” 9to5Mac’s Jordan Kahn reports.
This could potentially have something to do with Apple’s recent listing of software engineers looking to “design, develop and maintain complex front-end code for a new secret project”. Noted by 9to5Mac, the job description specifically mentioned working with “an advanced web platform”.
