Just a few days after Apple Pay was launched in the United States, there are already plenty of people who are seeing this as a revolutionary mode of payment in our generation. As a matter of fact, it was chosen as a way for customers to pay for their purchases during MLB season. So why is it that Rite Aid, one of the largest drug store chains in the US, has decided to stop accepting Apple Pay purchases?
To be fair, Rite Aid is not only limiting this decision to Apple Pay. The drug store chain, which has around 4,600 stores throughout the US, has announced that they will not be accepting payments from both Apple Pay and its rival, Google Wallet.
When the payment system launched on Monday, there were still a number of customers who tweeted about their successful purchase using their device. But as days went on, the drug store chain decided to disable the use of the service. As of this writing, they have not announced a reason for their decision.
“We just can’t take it at this time.” — was all that a representative had to say about the announcement that was earlier reported by SlashGear.
Even though the company’s customer service department confirmed availability of their ‘tap-and-go’ payment options, there was no update on whether or not they will be activating the service any time soon. When reached out for a comment, the company’s spokespeople failed to answer calls made to them.
With no further comment from Rite Aid, many customers are disappointed with their decision to disable NFC payment ability on its terminals. Even those who have used Google Wallet for their previous purchases have felt this unfair treatment. Hopefully, Rite Aid will provide a comment soon so that people will know why they decided to stop accepting NFC payment options.
