Dr. Eggman is at it again, but this time he is after the time traveling capabilities of the miracle planet. Sonic arrives at the miracle planet (which appears in the last month of every year) to find that the floating planet is chained to the ground. This is the work of Dr. Eggman. Sonic must make his way and find Dr. Eggman, and stop him from altering time. Along the way Sonic must collect 7 Time Stones, which he will use to stop Dr. Eggman.
Sonic will face many struggles in Sonic CD. The game is a retro side scrolling platform game that factors in finishing each level as quickly as possible. There are 7 levels in the game, each with 3 acts (2 levels and 1 boss fight). The main character Sonic is a blue hedgehog that runs at the speed of sound.The levels are based upon running to the end as quickly as possible. In the levels there are tons of rings to collect, they protect you if you get hurt by an enemy. If you do get hit, your character will jump back and all the rings you have collected will be thrown up in the air for you to collect again. If you manage to make it to the end of a level with 50 rings, you can play the special world where you can collect the Time Stones.
Many of the enemies in this game are roboticized animals that Dr. Eggman has created to stop Sonic. The boss fights in the game are quite difficult in some cases, they take a little bit of figuring out first but all can be completed with some effort. The level design is that of a mystical land not far from our own. Some levels may include a grassy field, a casino land, and many evil lab styles. The levels get more and more complex as you go along. A feature that adds to the game is the ability to be able to go from past to future. The past levels are all grassy and vibrant, while the future levels all are robotic and dreary. These different time zones change the level design a bit. Some levels are blocked off in an area while in the other time zone it’s open.
Sonic CD is a very fun action game that adds to the Sonic franchise very well. For being a ported game for the iOS devises this game stands out perfectly, much action, fast paced, and awesome replay value. Definitely pick this one up, it’s a keeper.
