Users have always been locked into a contract when using a SIM card on the iPad. However, that has changed with the release of the new iPad Air 2 tomorrow. The new iPad Air 2 is set to release tomorrow with a new Apple SIM card. This will allow the users to switch carriers anytime they wish. Users will no linger be locked to a particular carrier for a set amount of time. There are several cellar companies already on board with this new SIM card feature. The carriers are ATT, Sprint, and T-Mobile. Unfortunately, users wishing to use Verizon will needed to purchase a CDMA model of the iPad. Sprint users will be able to use rhe CDMA version too.
