Apple has filed a dispute concerning the domain iphone5.com. Seems everyone is unsure what the next iPhone will be called, iphone 5, iphone 6, or just “iPhone”. Some may be thinking of buying up all the domains related to Apple iPhone in any way. Based on all the court filings ands legal matters I really don’t think the average joe could go head to head with Apple in a court matter.
The iphone5.com domain currently host small forum site. I recently visited the site just out of curiosity and based on the comments left I don’t think it has too much to offer. But I’m sure after all the publicity the traffic will increase drastically. This may even help get the small forum started. I saw on the opening page they are asking others to call their representatives and fight the WIPO matter. See the screenshot below of the home page.
It does seem a bit odd that Apple has already been trying to acquire the domain iphone5.com. Why would they want this domain unless they were going to call the next iphone the iphone5? What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you think Apple will pay off the small guy?
