If you’re a fan of listening to music on your iOS device, you’ll be pleased to know that Apple is currently working on their own streaming music service. As reported by the Financial Times, the streaming music service will be available to new users for a free lengthy trial period. Reportedly, the free trial period of ‘Apple Music’ could be available for as long as three months. So anyone who registers for an account could thoroughly enjoy the service before they start paying for using it.
Comparing Apple’s music streaming service to its competitors, it truly does offer a longer free trial period. For starters, Spotify is only offering a 30-day free trial. And even more surprising is Rdio’s Unlimited trial period, which is just a couple of days.
But apart from being able to enjoy the extended trial period, this will also make it harder for users to cancel the service. Especially if they’ve found the service to be quite enjoyable, giving up on it could be a difficult decision to make. Unfortunately, Apple Music won’t be including a free tier. So after the 3-month trial period, users will have to decide either to end the service or start paying for it. A main reason for this is because Jimmy Iovine, Beats co-founder and newly-appointed Apple executive, has long been against the idea of free music.
For users who don’t want to use the service, the ad-supported iTunes Radio service will still be continuing. As a matter of fact, Apple has been reported to recruit rapper Drake, along with other celebrities, to serve as a special DJ for the service.
Apple Music is expected to be announced at the WWDC Keynote happening next Monday, along with the future of both iOS and OS X and a new Apple Watch kit for the construction of native apps. Until then, we’ll have to wait and see what the new music streaming service will offer.
