Have you been wanting the new Display Recorder from app store? The app created lots of buzz due to being named the same as the jailbreak tweak by developer Ryan Petrich. Earlier today Apple pulled the Display Recorder by BuGun in App store. The app, Display recorder sold for $1.99 and was downloaded many times in its short tenure in the Apple app store. You can watch my review of Display Recorder by BuGun here.
Well, turns out Ryan Petrich wasn’t to happy the developers of the new Display recorder, BuGun had been approved in Apple from the beginning. Ryan Petrich was quoted on twitter saying, “filed my first complaint in iTunes Connect today. Display recorder in the App store is not mine in spite of it using the same marketing.” However, you look at this situation it wasn’t very ethical by no means but we are in a dog eat dog world seems like but maybe Apple Inc. will have a say and should. The developers, BuGun had a great idea and application but should have used their own name and marketing. Looks like Ryan Petrich and Apple will have the last word on this situation. I tried to pull up the app in the Apple app store and was given the screen below.
The applications didn’t have even a close physical appearance so BuGun had to be thinking of piggy backing on Ryan Petrich’s app from the start by naming the app after the jailbreak tweak developed by Ryan Petrich, Display recorder. I can say from previous experiences both applications work great. I preferred the Apple store Display recorder but my opinion isn’t important anyway.
In conclusion, it doesn’t pay to be unethical or try to sponge off others success. Maybe by naming the application something different BuGun could have their application currently available in the Apple app store and still be making Benjamin’s. In this case ethics won the battle or do you believe Karma? Sound off in the comments below.
