BendGate iPhone 6 Tested

For anyone who hasn’t been in the news lately, #Bendgate refers to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus bend test.  It was first seen on Unbox Therapy, a Youtube Channel a few days ago which showed bending an iPhone 6 with his bare hands.  Since then it has blown up all over social media and the internet making iPhone owners and potential buyers afraid there idevice was not well made.  It could in fact bend while in the pocket of your jeans.

Well enough is enough ConsumerReports.org has performed a bend, stress test to end all could be or will it bend era.  As you can see in the first shot below deformation occurred at 70 lbs for the iPhone 6 and 90 lbs for the iP{hone Plus.  Who would have ever predicted the iPhone 6 Plus was stronger than the iPhone 6.  I’m assuming Apple has added reinforcements throughout the inside the body of the iPhone 6 which in fact made it withstand more force before bending.  However, turns out the iPhone 5 was the winning Apple device withstanding 130 lbs of force before bending.  That’s very impressive to say the least.  Although, the Samsung Galaxy Note withstood the most pressure at 150 lbs.  So whether you are looking to feel more at ease about carrying your device in your pocket or just wondering the results Consumer Reports has definitely shed some major light on the topic.  Based on the numbers in the test its age to say the Apple iPhone 6 and Plus will not bend under normal use. 

Apple has also stated they have only received nine complaints since the release of the new iPhone 6.  I’m not sure I can swallow that but we do have good news.  If your device bends under normal use Apple will replace it FREE of charge at any Apple store.  They perform what Apple calls a Visual Mechanical Inspection test on the device and if the Apple Genius deems your device was in fact bent under normal use they will give you a free device.  I’m not sure I agree with this process but at least anyone who has a bent iPhone 6 does have a shot at getting a new device.  Watch the stress test in full perform by the Consumer Reports above.
