ESports history begins in 1997, when it was founded by the CPL, which made its first tournament of the discipline in Quake. But the first game with the possibility of co-operative battles was Doom 2.
The audience of E-Sports is quite large, which monitors the performances of their favorite teams, tournament schedules and tables. To understand how huge is the E-sports fan base, here is some numbers:
- the 89 million people consider themselves fans of the virtual sport. This compares with 94 million hockey fans and 79 million viewers who regularly watch the swimming competition. According to forecasts of analytical agency Newzoo, the number of fans of eSports in 2017 will grow to 145 million, equivalent to an audience of American Football (151 million people).
