iOS 8 scales in at 46% within its first week being available to the public, according to Apple. As noted by Apple’s developer support app portal, nearly half of the devices that connect to the App Store is now running the latest and greatest version of iOS.
Concerns were raised about the size of this latest release slowing down adoption. Alerting users there wasn’t enough space on their devices.
As a quick reference, iOS 7 — Apple’s major redesign release — approached a 52% adoption rate within its first week. With all the press last year regarding iOS 7’s update, we think iOS 8 is doing pretty well.
Some users state that these numbers aren’t whole heartedly accurate, as they depend on the App Store. The results are impacted by devices running older software — such as the iPhone 4 — which cannot be updated to iOS 8.
Overall, iOS 8 is doing pretty well and is roughly hitting the adoption rate we’ve all come to expect.
