MyiDol iOS App Review: Create Your Favorite Actor or Yourself Even

For the past week, my Facebook and Twitter accounts have been dominated by videos of friends trying to imitate their favorite actors and singers using the iOS app, Dubsmash.  I never took a liking to it as it was a bit too weird for me. Sorry guys!  Today, however, my Twitter account was flooded with (again) a new trend among iOS users, and this time, it’s actually pretty hilarious.

When I tried to look for whatever this app was, I discovered it was a purely Chinese iOS app called MyIdol.  The app was created by a company called Huanshi LTD and they have already promised to release an English version of the app real soon.

What I really enjoyed about MyIdol iOS app is that it lets you make fun of yourself and share it to others.  Despite topping the trending list on the app store, not everyone truly understands what the app does or how it functions.  This, however, does not stop anyone from tinkering around and trying out different options to see how they can create funny videos of themselves.  Now, if you still don’t know what this iOS app is about, you can think of it like as something like Angela Anaconda or Tomodachi Life.

When you use the app on the iPhone, the first thing it requires is that you import a picture or take a selfie that you can use to represent yourself in the app.  It’s best to do this with good light, so your mini-you can look real good.  One note about this iPhone app though is that when you launch it, it will play a background music that activates even when you’re phone is on silent mode, so be on the lookout for that.

Once you’ve taken your selfie, you can work with the avatar and change its appearance.  By default, it chooses the male gender so no matter how gorgeous you look, your avatar will turn you into a man.  No worries about this though, as you can easily revert to a female gender by tapping on the Chinese icons on top.

The next thing you can do is to choose your hair color, outfit, and make yourself look older.  You can even dress up your avatar in a panda suit or a Superman costume so you can have more fun with yourself.  And when you’re ready, you can press the video icon on the bottom.  This will lead you to download the different options for you to have fun with.  Some options include: Frozen, Sexy Back, or even Pole Dancing.

Whichever you choose, you’ll surely enjoy seeing yourself dancing to your heart’s content—even if in reality you can’t really dance to save your life.  Share it with your friends and let them have a good laugh as well.
