Time Tracking. Easy.
OfficeTime comes to the iPad and iPhone!
OfficeTime.net has released the iPad and iPhone versions of its highly successful time and expense tracking app, OfficeTime!
OfficeTime has been designed to balance features and ease- of-use, allowing users to easily track exactly what they do each day and how much they spend. Ideal for anyone who bills by the hour, OfficeTime makes recording and tracking time and expenses simple with a clean, elegant interface.
The new versions for iPad and iPhone focus on ease-of-use, recognizing that if time tracking is simple to do, users will be more likely to take the time to do it. OfficeTime provides useful, intuitive features such as enabling users to always be able to edit their time after it has already been registered, and pre-selecting the most common tasks performed on a particular project to make it quick and simple to complete the entry.
OfficeTime’s synchronization feature lets users track their time while away from the office and, upon their return, all of their time logs are completely in sync with the desktop version.
OfficeTime’s loyal following was built on its simple-to-use interface and rich, visual reporting at the touch of a button. The app makes it easy to pause, resume and track multiple projects simultaneously along with recording expenses and detailed notes.
Pricing
OfficeTime for iPhone and iPad will retail in the App Store for US$7.99, while the PC and Mac versions can be purchased at OfficeTime.net for US$47. Unlike web-based time-tracking applications, OfficeTime does not require a monthly subscription fee.
There is a free version of OfficeTime available which lacks a few features available in the full version.

Quick Tour
This tour is designed to give you a taste of some of the power that lies beneath a simple exterior.
?Open OfficeTime on the iPhone / iPod Touch
(The guide here works as well for the iPad. If in portrait orientation, press
the top left menu to begin.)
Adding a Session
?Press New Session
Sessions are blocks of time. They can be entered historically or recorded live. You can continue a session again and again or enter a new session for each block of time you spend on a particular task. Most people make new sessions each go.
About Projects
?Press the Project button
Projects can be personal or a job for a client. For instance, brochure, new website, advertising campaign. Some people will add the client’s name such as Acme Brochure.
?Press Add Project. Give it a name
About Categories
?On the Add Project screen, select Default Category ?Add a new category, name it and give it an hourly rate
This is the most common task done for this client/job.
Categories are tasks or kinds of work. They could be as simple as Admin, Meet or Phone or as complex as stages of a project. Categories are available to all projects.
A session can be assigned a category and will take on that category’s hourly rate.
People often have different kinds of work that are charged at different rates. Assigning a rate of $50 to Research and $20 to Data Entry allows people to easily pick the kind of work they’re doing and see how much it is worth.
?Save your category & project and navigate back until you are on the New Session screen
Note how your new project and your new category are automatically filled in for you. Whenever you choose this project, this category will be pre-filled but can be changed easily.
Timing
?Press the Start button
You now see the timesheet and your session timing. Normally you’d see all of your historical data here broken down by day.
?Stop the timer by pressing the pause icon
Press on the left of your green timing session. Note
how you don’t have to go into the timer to start and
stop it. It will probably show 00h 00m because a minute hasn’t elapsed yet. You can resume it.
Add a task from earlier
Let’s add a task we’ve already done
?Press New Session button (at bottom on the iPhone)
Accept the pre-selected project and category or choose a new one.
?Press Notes
Let’s note what we’re doing this time. Type Call with Bob.
?Save your note
?Press on the 00h 00m 00s then the Start tab
Change the start time to earlier today. Note the handy shortcuts below for starting on a nice round time.
?Press End tab. Adjust ending time.
Alternatively, you could have pressed the Duration tab and just chosen a duration. If you look in the duration tab, you’ll see there are additional shortcuts down below to create nice round times.
Rapid switching between tasks
?Go back to the Timesheet
?Press the Play icon of a session ?Press the Play icon of another session
Notice how your current session automatically stops.
You can easily switch tasks by pressing each play icon.
(Try it now.) In the settings you can enable Multiple Timers to allow several sessions to be timed at the same time instead.
Edit a session
?Press anywhere other than the play/pause icon. Edit. Go back to the Timesheet.
Note how you can easily adjust anything. We believe if you can see it, you should be able to adjust it.
Expenses
Expenses operate in a similar way.
?Press the New Expense button (at bottom on the iPhone)
Again, details are pre-filled for you. Feel free to change them.
?Enter an amount, then press Notes
Note your text below under Recent Notes. As you make notes, OfficeTime remembers them and lets you quickly pre-fill in notes with an eye again to saving presses. Soon you’ll have a list of common notes. The most frequently used ones bubble to the top.
Adjusting Things
?Navigate back to the Timesheet
?Press any session or expense to adjust it.
Press anywhere other than the play icon on your session. You can easily add a few minutes to reflect time you forgot to record or change the project you were working on. We believe if you can see it, you should be able to change it.
Projects Screen
?Exit out of any editing
?Press the Home icon (bottom left on iPhone.) (iPad, ensure the
left pane shows the main screen)
If you left a timer running, you’ll see it at the bottom here for reference on the iPhone. You can easily stop it from here.
?Go into Projects
You can edit, delete and arrange the order of your projects
here. Projects default to alphabetical order.
?Press a project
You’ll see all the details about time and expenses for this
project.
Handy tip: If you press the New Session or Expense button Here, it will automatically pre-fill in the details of this project. It’s smart enough to know what you’re focusing on. This is a handy way to rapid fire work on different aspects of one project.
Categories Screen
?Go back home and press Categories
This is exactly the same as Projects except you can see a list of your time broken down by the task you’re doing. Again going into a category and making a session pre-fills in this category.
Summary Reports
?Go back home and press Reports
Here you can see a nice summary of everything that’s been happening. This screen will make more sense if you enter a couple projects, categories and sessions.
Up top is your total for all projects
Next, the total of each of your categories you’ve been working on.
Below that is the total of each project and then summarized by category for that project. This is a great way to see which project is over budget or where all the time has been going for a specific project.
?Press the words All Time.
You can change the reporting period easily.
?Select Day. Press the left and right arrows.
Note how if you had lots of data you could easily go back and forth to see how different days compared. OfficeTime does this with as little fuss and finger taps as possible.
Detailed Reports
What if you wanted to know why a project was taking up so much time?
?Tap a project or category
You instantly get detail of everything that makes up that
project or category.
And, unlike our competitor’s static reports, you can tap anything you see to immediately change or correct entries.
Most apps require you to go to a report screen, select the dates and ranges of data you want and then generate a report. People’s brains typically don’t work like this. OfficeTime instead presents you with a summary of everything and let’s you easily drill down into exactly what you need. A more intuitive approach to save time and taps.
Exporting
?Press the Export button (bottom right iPhone, top iPad)
Any report and any screen you see can be exported by email. It opens fine in Excel (PC/Mac) or Numbers (iPad/iPhone/Mac). You can even see the reports in Mail on your iPhone or iPad. Some versions of Excel require you to Import rather than Open the file.
OfficeTime turned exporting upside down. Rather than exporting everything or requiring you to choose the data you want through a cumbersome option screen, you just simply export from the screens you are used to.
Remember, you can export the Summary Report too. This is a great way to send a client or boss an overview of what you’ve been working on.
Sync with a PC or Mac
?Download desktop software from www.officetime.net
OfficeTime can share and sync everything with your desktop computer. (Reviewers and bloggers: Please email support@officetime.net for a free license key.)
?Open OfficeTime for PC or Mac ?On your iPhone/iPad, go Home,
choose Settings (upper right)
?Choose Desktop Sync, Sync with, then your Mac or PC.
From that point on everything will wirelessly be kept in sync between the two anytime both apps are open.
OfficeTime for the PC and Mac has even more powerful reporting and will allow you to invoice everything though customizable templates.
OfficeTime for Free
There is a free version of OfficeTime. The only limitations are no export or sync and a limit of 2 projects and 3 categories. If the full version of OfficeTime is purchased on the App Store, it will automatically ask to import all of the data from the free version.
