Yosemite OS X has brought many great features for users to improve their workflow. One of the most useful is in the mail app where users can markup e-mails or annotate. Apple refers to this feature as Mail drop and markup. It’s a great way to send large files when other apps won’t allow you to do. However, keep in mind when you are sending these files its using storage in your iCloud account to do and Apple only gives 5 GB of Free storage space in iCloud.
How to use Mail Drop in Yosemite 10.10
It’s rather simple to use just import a video file or some other large file you want to send. It will show the size of the email at the top of the email its self, directly below the from part of the email. Sending multiple files is fine just keep the 5 GB threshold in mind.
Users receiving the large emails will receive them just the same as all other emails. However, it will include links to Apple’s servers for downloading the files. If the user is also an OS X user the files may be automatically downloaded and displayed depending on their settings.
How to use Markup in Yosemite 10.10
This is definitely one of the best features in Yosemite. I am indefinitely having to markup photos in photoshop or some third party iOS application. After importing the photo you wish to annotate you will see a small drop down arrow on the top right side of the photo in the mail app. It offers a tool bar with many different items for marking up photos or other files. It’s a great way to sign pdf forms too. Users can use the trackpad for signing or hold their signature in front of the Macs front facing camera to import the signature they wish to have. It can be saved for later use also. The tool bar has shapes, text, color pallets, pen tool, and much more.
