According to a new report by the Wall Street Journal, we might soon see a new 3D smartphone, “Project Aria”, later this year by the e-commerce giant, Amazon.
The report indicates that the smartphone will most likely be announced in June citing people briefed on the company’s plans. Shortly after, the company will release its new device in September to consumers in various markets. Amazon has already given out prototypes of its device to developers in San Francisco and at its Seattle headquarters for testing purposes.
Amazon is deciding to dominate the smartphone market by introducing a device with a 3D screen which displays multi-dimensional images to the user without requiring specially designed 3D glasses. In addition, it would also include a retina-tracking technology in its front camera.
The company has already signed a deal with Japan Display to manufacture displays for its smartphone. As of now, there’s no official detail on what the device would sport however it is likely that the operating system would be based on Android.
