An earlier San Jose Mercury News report unveiled Apple’s plan of expanding its operations to a new location in Sunnyvale, CA. The Sunnyvale Crossing campus, built with 290,000 square feet, measures just a bit smaller compared to the Apple’s recent 350,000 square feet expansion in Sunnyvale.
The report has been further confirmed with city planning documents and building permit applications indicating interior improvements for the seven buildings situated on the campus. Further plans of Apple include taking over the seven buildings, which is currently capable of supporting 1,450 employees.
In this location, Apple plans to construct its new ‘spaceship’ headquarters– a project that the company hopes to accomplish by 2016. The construction of this project will help Apple in letting go of external campuses. As a result, they will be able to gather its corporate team together and situate them all in just one centralized location. Reportedly, however, the lease on the new space will be between 7-10 years. For this reason, they might continue using the rent for a few more years.
Sunnyvale, CA is currently home to the former Palm headquarters; a facility that measures 285,000 square feet. There have been news updates that Google is in the process of taking over the facility, as a way of expanding its office space operations. Make sure to keep up-to-date with Apple’s new campus in future articles.
