After only a week of launching iOS 8, Apple has released another update today. Called iOS 8.0.1, the update comes with a series of fixes for the bugs that the earlier version 8.0 produced. But most importantly, the new version included a fix for a bug that prevented HealthKit apps from appearing on the App Store. At the same time, this 8.0.1 update would take care of plenty of other issues such as:
- Accessing photos from Photo Library on certain apps
- Issues that caused users to incur unexpected data usage when receiving both SMS and MMS messages
- Bugs that involved 3rd party keyboards
- Issues on ringtones not getting restored by iCloud
Not to mention, the 8.0.1 update includes a number of improvements for the features that have already been made available through the initial software update. Based on the release notes, 8.0.1 update gives way for an improved reliability on the newly Reachability feature as well as a better support for the Ask To Buy feature on Family Sharing.
According to its release notes, here is what to be expected from iOS 8.0.1:
This release contains improvements and bug fixes, including:
- Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
• Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
• Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
• Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
• Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
• Better support of Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
• Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
• Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari
After Apple released iOS 8.0.1, plenty of users complained about complete loss of cellular connectivity and Touch ID support particularly on its newest models. Thankfully, Apple was quick to respond by publishing a new help document almost twelve hours after the update went live. Through this support document, Apple hopes to provide assistance to its users who experienced issues with the latest update.
Along with the help document, Apple has released information that a version 8.0.2 update is currently being developed and will be available ‘in the next few days.’ Hopefully, they will be more careful with the update and perform more testing before they make it live. For the meantime, if you are one of those affected by the 8.0.1 issue, you can restore your device back to iOS 8.0 here.
