If you purchased an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, or iPhone 4S in specific countries between October 2009 to September 2012, Apple has some important news for you! Just recently, the conglomerate announced that they will be replacing this potentially dangerous 5-watt European iPhone USB power adapters as soon as possible.
Specific iPhone USB adapters with labels ‘Model A1300’ or a solid gray ‘CE’ on the bottom portion are among those that need to be replaced ASAP. According to Apple, these adapters have a tendency to overheat and may pose a safety risk to their customers in ‘rare cases.’
“Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to exchange every affected power adapter for a new, redesigned adapter, free of charge,” the company said. “We encourage customers to exchange any affected adapter for a new one as soon as possible.”
If you have one, make sure you bring it to the nearest Apple Retail Store or a participating Apple Authorized Service Provider to your area. During the exchange, you will need to have your iPhone serial number verified so make sure you bring your device with you.
If you are unable to get your USB adapter exchanged in the soonest time possible, Apple advises you to get in touch with their Technical Support team so an exchange can be processed. For the meantime, make sure you charge your iPhone through your computer’s USB port while this defective part remains with you.
