The Apple Watch stole the stage yesterday at Apple’s Keynote. There’s still plenty of questions answered. David Pogue has a bit more information.
Firstly, the Apple Watch isn’t waterproof. Some have claimed that it was waterproof. It’s water resistant. So you don’t need to take it off to wash your hands, cook or even if you get caught in the rain, though Apple says you shouldn’t take it into the shower or for a swim. We thought it would only be available for the Apple Watch Sport, but we now know that the watch is water resistant all across the board.
Apple told Pogue the watch will be able to make phone calls. You’ll need to use your iPhone to download new apps onto the Apple Watch. Ina Fried from Re/code says the watch can take care of payments and fitness tracking on its own. The Apple Watch will be able to find your phone via an app called Ping my Phone.
The super high-end smartwatch will come with a special case designed with a built in charger that’s designed to look like a jewelry box. It’s still unknown how Apple will manage to charge the gold model Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch will be available in three different variants, Apple Watch, Apple Sport, and Apple Edition. It will be available sometime in early 2015.
Design, you either like or don’t, in this case I don’t like it but I have a feeling once you get used to doing the regular and little things via a watch we will be hooked. It comes back to that 80/20 rule. 80% of what I do is simple and quick, things like texts, What’s App, Facebook Status, quick calls, walking to meetings and needing directions and other things might make this a revelation.
The problem is the iPhone has missed the mark for me, I wanted 4k video and a better battery by far. So,whilst I see the vision and erring towards a Sony Z3. Given I’m an Apple user this is an interesting situation I find myself in. I’m fortunate that I can afford the top of the range iPhone and Apple Watch but I’m thinking about the Sony Z3, for me this means Apple have missed the mark as I should not be even hesitating… I have to weigh up my preference for iOS over Android, that may effect my decision not to by the Sony Z3 but I’ll still weighing it up…
