Many users get a new device and never learn all the great benefits and features it may have to offer us. We only use the features that are directly on top and the features we have to use to use the device. Fortunately, this is not the only features available in iOS 10. We have a great feature called 3D Touch which many users aren’t even aware exist. Let’s take a few moments now to learn more about this great feature and what it has to offer.
We often get acquainted with our devices and happy with the features we use on it daily. We don’t take the time to look inside to see what else it has to offer us. However, iOS 10 brings a new feature called 3D Touch. I must say this is a great tool especially for anyone who may need too do more than one thing at a time with the touch of one button. It’s especially helpful for users such as myself, who have limited physical abilities. It makes using the iPhone or iPad so much more enjoyable and a faster way to perform different tasks using the same button.
It’s sad to say but I have been carrying around a device with iOS 10 on it since before last year, which was 2016, and didn’t take the time to fully understand what 3D Touch had to offer. Enough of my ranting and on with the wonders of 3D Touch and how amazing it really is.

How To Enable 3D Touch on iOS 10
The first thing we need to do is make sure 3D Touch is enabled on your device. Unfortunately it wasn’t enabled on mine which is probably why I never saw it earlier. Open settings > General >
Accessibility > 3D Touch “Toggle On”. From here you can adjust the sensitivity you prefer to invoke 3D Touch. I was happy with the factory setting of medium.
Now that we have the 3D Touch feature enabled lets learn more about it. You may think of 3D Touch as the right click option on the mouse, of the computer. It allows the user the benefits of having more than one option to do more things. For example you may hard press the ”Safari” icon to start 3D Touch features for Safari. This will allow you several additional options such as: 1. show reading list 2. show bookmarks 3. new private tab or 4. add new tab. You now have unlimited number of new tabs inside the safari browser icon while using 3D Touch.
Which Devices have 3D Touch available
If you have an iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, you really should consider using 3D Touch for the things we are going to show you below. Take it from someone who often finds it difficult to learn new features on new devices, 3D Touch is great and should be used by everyone. However, I want to extend an especially anyone who may handicapped or have limited ability with one hand. I have only access of one hand and this will make using the iPhone even a greater delight. It will definitely give any user the ability to do things more efficiently.

App iCons – these can be opened by hard pressing on the app you are wishing to open 3D Touch. If you get nothing and it has been toggled on you can probably bet the developer has not implemented them into their app yet. However, if you hard press, for example on ”Settings” you get a pop up with several different items such as 1. Bluetooth 2. Wifi 3. Cellular Data 4. Battery. So as you can see it’s a much faster way to get into settings you may need to adjust. They are right there in the hard press of an app icon. Super great feature and one you should give a try.
New and Weather Icons. – Hard pressing the new Apple News icon will bring up some pretty useful information here. As you can see these topics are all customizable my the user and can be set to whatever you may want to read that day. Here you can set reminders and calendar events in the just a couple fast taps or long presses I should say of the screen. These are great features and if you read lots of New and Weather or set lots of reminders you really need to give this a look.
Photos and Camera Icons -The photos app icon offers a yearly photo collection and shortcuts to see the most recent photos taken, designated favorites, and even a quick search box for finding tagged photos. So I guess we all need to start adding tags to our photos so we can find them faster. See up until iOS 10 we haven’t really had a way to find them other than look through hundreds of snapshots which can be overwhelming.
Messages and Mail Icons. -This is one of my favorites. Probably because I send hundreds of emails a week. This makes it easier for me to send and receive text too.
Phone, FaceTime, and Contacts – Everyone uses these on the iPhone. This can make these features even better. Hard Pressing on the phone app opens up a whole new world for using the phone. Users may get their voicemail here, create new contacts, search contacts, most recent calls, and favorites. Yes, I said favorites. Here you may add the contacts you wish to call the most often and have it ready with a hard press of the icon. Favorites are set inside the phone app under the “favorites” option. Extremely fast and easy to set.
Safari and Apple Map icons – Here users can 1. Mark their current locations 2. Send locations. 3. Search Nearby -this option allows users to choose from food, drinks, services, health, fun, transport, shopping, and travel to name a few of the most popular ones. As you can see it makes it much faster to find things such as restaurants or motels.
Folders and Downloads – shows the downloads you may have at the time. This way you can keep track its progress or when it finishes. It’s a great way to monitor downloads of more than one download at a time. 3D Touch works for folders too by hard pressing a folder it gives you the option to rename the folder, and add shortcuts for any apps you may have inside the folder.
iCloud and Music – long pressing on the iCloud icon will bring up shortcuts for the three most recent files you mays have added or read. The Music Icon works much the same. By long pressing on the Music Icon it shows three most recent played albums and a search option. This makes finding any song you may want to hear much easier and faster.
Clock -here you can hard press to create new alarm, start the stopwatch, timers and more. It just opens up the clock for instant use as opposed to sifting through the app to find what you may need.

App Switcher and Cursor Control – This will definitely be a favorite by everyone. The app switcher makes jumping from one app to another much faster plus add 3D Touch in the mix and you have a recipe for efficiency. The next time you need to find the app you opened a couple apps ago, try a hard press of the left side of the screen. This opens the app switcher much faster so you may scroll through the apps to find what you need much easier.

Cursor Control – we have all needed to edit a text message or a word in a document we was typing with the iPhone. Now if you need to edit something just hard press on any letter of the keyboard to gain control of the cursor and edit your word or letter.
