**Watch one of our older videos below to get an understanding of how this works. The process is still the same even two firmware updates later.
Users should backup their iOS device before starting the downgrade or restore. You should also download the correct iPSW firmware for the device you wish to downgrade or restore. Please be mindful to firmwares which should be installed before trying to downgrade. It’s impossible to downgrade more than the previous version at this time. For the most part we will just leave it at that. If you need to downgrade more than one version you should look for another tutorial we do not cover these topics here.
Users will need to download the iPSW they wish to end up with on their devices when this is completed,. For example, we are going to show how to downgrade from iOS 10.2.1 to 10.2. Now for this to work the simplest way Apple needs to still be signing the firmware we are trying to downgrade to which in this case is iOS 10.2. And they currently are still signing iOS 10.2 as of 1/27/17. Once the window closes for Apple signing firmware the process for downgrading changes a bit. Users will need to use a software called Prometheus and Blobs2 which should have ben saved beforehand. But for the purpose of this tutorial we are only going to discuss how to downgrade using firmware which Apple still signs.
You can check to see which version of iOS you are running by going settings > general > about -about half way down the page look beside version: you should see 10.2.1 or the current version on your device. If this says anything besides 10.2.1 you need to go to settings > general > software update -if there is an update available for your device it will be installed here and you should update now before moving on in the tutorial. Once the device has installed iOS 10.2.1 you can move forward following this tutorial.

- Put iOS device in DFU mode —need help follow this awesome tutorial How To Enter Safe Mode on iOS Device iPhone iPod iPad ?
- If you are downgrading or restoring iPhone 7 you must follow different method for entering DFU mode. Entering DFU Mode on iPhone 7 is different than other devices. Follow our video tutorial called How to Put iPhone 7 DFU Mode not Recovery Mode
- Is Apple Signing the firmware? Check here you should bookmark this site for future use. I have used it a hundred times already. ?
- Once iTunes has detected your iPhone 7 in DFU Mode you are ready to move forward with this guide. If you have an iTunes symbol on the screen of the iPhone 7 rather than the screen being dark or blank, you are in safe/recovery mode. However, iTunes will say it has detected a device in recovery mode but as long as the screen does not have the iTunes symbol it in DFU mode. This term DFU is used in the jailbreak community not by Apple. Screen should be dark but iTunes says its in recovery mode to be correct. It’s a bit confusing I know but leave its to Apple.
- Now you are ready to hit restore in iTunes and hold “option/alt” on Mac or “shift” on Windows PC together at the same time. This will prompt a popup box where you can choose the location of the iPSW file or 10.2 iPSW you downloaded in step 2. You are now ready to hit “ok” and the downgrade or restore process should begin.
The downgrade or restore process takes a few minutes but not over 15 minutes or so. If it’s been longer there must be an issue so try to complete the process again. Be sure you have downloaded the correct iPSW. If it doesn’t work using the one you downloaded after a couple tries you may need to download a different iPSW to try.
After the process has completed and you should see status bars on the iPhone as it goes through the different steps just follow the on screen instructions and set you iPhone 7 up as “new iPhone”
