Apple has added a dark mode in Yosemite OS X 10.10 for the Mac. It’s a great way to change the overall look a bit without changing functionality or costing anything. The settings are a bit hidden but we got you covered on that aspect.
Yosemite’s dark mode removes the bright colors of the menu bar, sub menus, and application dock, replacing them with black. This makes it a better theme for using in the dark, no doubt it would proven t some of the glare at night.
iOS Tip: iOS has a similar feature for using at night. Users can find the iOS feature under accessibility > invert colors. That’s often though of as iOS dark mode.
How to Enable Dark Mode in Yosemite OS X 10.10
1. Launch System Preferences from the Application folder
2. Click General in top left corner of preferences pane
3. Check the box next to “use dark menu bar and Dock”
At this time Apple hasn’t included a way to change to dark mode based on time of day or schedule a time to apply dark more. Hopefully, thats something wee see in a newer future update.
