Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has started to realize the need to develop a new tool for missing children to be rescued. After posts of missing children continue to circulate the largest social media site, the development of AMBER Alerts has now been developed.
Through its partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Facebook has announced that AMBER Alerts will be included on its timeline. This way, they will be able to boost exposure of critical information needed by those that need it in such cases.
“When local or state police determine that a case qualifies for an AMBER Alert, the alert is issued by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and distributed through the Facebook system with any available information, including a photograph of the missing child, a license plate number, the name and description of the child and suspected abductor.”
Unlike native government alerts, Facebook users will not be receiving a push notification for information on these alerts. Instead, the information will be available in detail when an individual is browsing his timeline. Once an AMBER Alert has been switched to active by a nearby community, details for the alert will be viewable on the timeline.
The integration of Facebook with AMBER Alert system will soon be available on both the web and its mobile app. Through this, Facebook will be fully able to maximize their platform to help find missing children. Especially since its users have used Facebook to share information that have proven to be helpful in the recovery of missing children, it only pays logical information to make use of the social media site for this matter. With this new integration, Facebook hopes that the added exposure and easier option for sharing alerts could be a useful tool in the recovery of these children.
