iOS 8 is currently missing Four Major Features which makes it intriguing for others. These are features which would predict whether many users upgraded or not. So enough rambling let me tell you what I’m talking about now.
Apple has seeded the public release of iOS 8 on Wednesday this week.
Users with a compatible iPhone, iPod, or iPad can download iOS 8 now if they so choose. However, the upgrade for many users is NOT going to be much significant at the moment. It’s been confirmed that four major iOS 8 features are missing or not fully functional or being delayed released. These features are Healthkit, iCloud Drive, Continuity, and Apple Pay.
iOS 8 comes reinstalled on the new iPhone 6 and Plus devices but it’s also available as an over the air update but requires 6.9 GB Free Space. If You are Jailbroken you will bolt new able to use the OTA update. Jailbroken users upgrading to iOS 8 should connect to the computer and upgrade through iTunes.
SMS Continuity
One of the best features in iOS 8 is SMS Continuity. Unfortunately, Apple has confirmed this would not be available until October. The feature allows users to send and receive SMS or MMS Text messages from an iPad or Mac when an iPhone is within reach. The feature uses both Bluetooth and WiFi to function properly. Users can also start messages on one device and finish it from another device. We saw the feature in the iOS 8 beta’s but was later disabled in the Gold Master release. The ability to send and receive phone calls from an iPad or Mac appears to still be available.
iCloud Drive
iCloud Drive is available in iOS 8 right now but several major tech sites have suggested users not upgrade to it yet. The reason many are suggesting users to refrain from using iCloud Drive at this time is if you do you will not be able to access the documents currently stored in iCloud on any devices NOT running iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite.
HealthKit
HealthKit was recently the cause of several apps being pulled in the App Store. Brian Mueller which is the popular developer workout app, Carrot Fit. He stated his app was removed from the App Store because the new feature HealthKit was not launch ready. It’s unclear how long it will be before HealthKit is launch ready and back in iOS 8.
Apple Pay
Apple Pay was one of the latest features to be unveiled. Apple has already stated Apple Pay would not release until October. So there’s two out of the four already confirming release jun October. Apple Pay is a new mobile payments platform powered by NFC chip on both the iPhone 6 and tyne iPhone 6 Plus. The way it works is when users need to make a payment they can simply point their device in the direction of the register or POS system and verify you are the card holder with Touch ID. Users can make payments using Apple Pay at over 220,000 participating stores in U.S.
These are the four features missing in iOS 8 at this time. Which features was you looking forward to most? Does this effect your decision for upgrading?
