apple watch battery

Now that the Apple Watch has been launched, it’s expected that a lot of people will be interested to purchase one as soon as they can.  For functionality purposes, this is a great tool for them to use instead of taking out their iPhones out of their pockets to check for updates.  With this, iPhone users can save battery life on their device as it was designed by Apple to have a battery life of up to 18 hours per day.  But of course, this will still have to depend on what you do with your device.  If you want to prolong your Apple Watch’s lifespan, here are some tips on what you can do to reach up to 18 hours of battery life per day:

Adjust Your Screen Brightness

One of the easiest ways you can preserve battery life is to adjust your screen brightness.  Even though the Apple Watch’s OLED display was designed to provide blacks with minimal power, it still requires power.  And you have to remember that the brighter your screen is, the more power it will need.

You can easily prolong your device’s battery life by adjusting the screen brightness.  Open Settings > Brightness & Text Size.  From here, you can pick from the three brightness levels available.

Have Minimal Updates

There are some watch face features (called complications) that will require you to ping your location so that updated data can be fed to your device.  While this produces a minimal impact on your battery life, it could quickly add up it plenty of your watch face features require this.  Some of the complications that do this include the Sunrise/Sunset, Weather, and Moon Phase.  You can opt to forego these so you won’t have to waste important battery life.

Minimize Haptic Feedback

Vibration from your Apple Watch’s Taptic Engine could lead to draining out your battery.  No matter how minimal this could be, it could lead up to an empty battery without you reaching the allotted 18 hours per day.  You don’t really need this so you can just switch off prominent haptic by going to Settings > Sounds & Haptic.

Lower Down or Mute Volume

The default setup of Apple Watch is that you will receive haptic feedback and a sound once a notification is received.  Over time, these two can contribute to lowering your device’s battery life.  You can adjust your volume or even mute the sound by going to Settings > Sounds & Haptic on your Apple Watch.  As for the notifications, you can adjust them on Settings > Notifications.  From here, you can customize which app will push notifications to you on mute and with a sound.

Switch Off Unnecessary Apps

There are certain apps on the Apple Watch that have automatically been set to give you a notification.  If you don’t really need them, you can switch them off so they won’t use up your device’s battery life.  Among the ones that you can switch off include DND (Do Not Disturb), Hey Siri, Wrist Raise, and Automatic App Downloads).  You can also delete apps that you don’t use as this will prevent draining your battery from the data transfer that takes place between your iPhone and Apple Watch.

Customize When Working Out

One good thing about the Apple Watch is that it can read your heart beat.  Obviously, you won’t need to check out your heart beat regularly throughout the day.  So to help you save battery life, you can just disable heart rate and fitness tracking when you don’t need to use them.  At the same time, this will stop sending your heart beat to your friends’ Apple Watch devices in a creepy way.

Opt for Power Reserve Mode

If you don’t need to be given alerts from your Apple Watch all the time, you can switch to Power Reserve mode.  This can do a big help in saving your battery life as it will shut down all the features on your device.  But it still does retain its basic function in telling you the time.  To enter Power Reserve mode, swipe up to access Glances and look for the power logo.  From there, you can tap on Power Reserve.  If you need to switch back to normal mode, you can simply press and hold your watch’s side button so it will restart.

These simple tips can help do wonders in saving battery life on your Apple Watch.  Make sure you follow these so you can prolong the battery on your device and get a full day’s use!
