- Download the latest version of iTunes which currently is 12.0.1 for Windows or Mac
- Connect Device to iTunes and Restore to a clean version of iOS 8
- Download iOS 8 from links provided below
- Start iTunes on Mac, hold Alt Key down (on windows PC, hold down shift key), and click Restore iPhone…. button. iTunes will now allow you to choose the iPSW you downloaded earlier.
This step may take a few minutes so just let it do it’s thing. Once the iDevice reboots a couple times and finishes installing you will be all set to go on iOS 8. Now this gets you the Clean iOS 8 Install. If you are updating to iOS 8.1 you will need to proceed on below.

How to update to iOS 8.1
As you know iOS 8.1 will go live to public today. However, once the downloads are available we will have them listed here. iOS 8.1 will also be available as OTA install for devices running iOS 7.x or iOS 8. However, we don’t recommend this method but if you do not have a computer you aren’t left with much choice. When using OTA be certain you are on a secure WiFi connection and be sure to backup your iOSA device using iTunes or iCloud. Users updating to iOS 8.1 from iOS 7.x will need at least 6 GB Free storage and users updating from iOS 8 will need much less Free space.
Before installing be sure to backup device. Here are the steps for iCloud backup open settings > iCloud > Backup toggle on or tap backup now. If you are updating at this moment and your last backup has been a few days we suggest tapping backup now. After the backup completes you can use the OTA method for installing iOS 8.1
If you plan to update using OTA Open Settings > General > Software Update from here choose install iOS 8.1
