How to Quickly Free Up RAM From Your iOS Device Without a Hard Reset

When it comes to memory, Apple has designed its iOS devices to dynamically allocate RAM to apps when it is needed. At the same time, it frees up RAM when the app is closed and suspend apps that are not being used. But despite the fact that this is something Apple has ensured, a poorly written app could end up consuming RAM. In the process, it could degrade the performance of the iOS device.

If you are dealing with this problem, you will have to know how you can clear your RAM and free up some space. One way you can do that is to do a hard reset on your device. But if you’re looking for a quicker way to free up RAM space on your device without having to force restart it, here is a short guide that can help you out:

Step 1: From the Home screen, open the sluggish app

Step 2: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until you receive a prompt to “Slide to Power Off”

Step 3: Release the button and hold down the Home button until the app is kicked off. This will then lead you back to the Home screen.

Doing this can instantly free up RAM space on your iOS device, thus improve its performance. Since this process kills all apps and processes running in the background, you have to make sure you don’t have anything necessary running. You can also invest in apps like ActMonitor to help you keep tabs on the memory being used up by your device.

A warning: While it may sound like a good advice to purge RAM on your device, it is not advisable to do it frequently. You should only follow this procedure if you notice that your device or an app has become slow.
