There is no doubt that the iPhone is one of the most popular devices throughout this planet. And for this reason, it’s easy to confuse someone else’s device as your own. This is why there are people who opt to include different accessories for their iPhone so they can easily tell if their device is on the hands of someone else.

But there is one more issue that many iPhone users know too well. Imagine this– you’re sitting in a conference and you’re attentively listening to the speaker. Suddenly, an iPhone rings with that all too familiar sound. You try to recall whether or not you were able to put your phone on silent mode before anyone could notice, but it’s too late. People are already looking around and trying to determine who the culprit is. When you finally fish your phone out of your pocket, you realize that your device, indeed, is in silent mode and that there are no incoming calls taking place. A few seats down on your row, another man raises his iPhone and rushes out of the room.

Yes, that same problem is common among iPhone users. Even though there are already so many people who own an iPhone, Apple has retained the same ringtone sounds across these devices. You can always pick out a different ringtone, but there is always that risk that someone else is using the same tone for his phone. Another option is to purchase a ringtone from the iTunes Store. But this isn’t available for free. You will have to pay for the ringtone you want to use.

Thankfully, there is another option that you can opt for. You can create your own songs directly on your iPhone. And the best news is– you won’t have to jailbreak your device just for this.

The process of creating your own ringtone is not so simple or straightforward, unlike the other tasks you can do with your iPhone. But once you manage to create your first ringtone from your iPhone, you’ll be able to do it easily on other songs that you want to use. This way, you can set up various ringtones for your contacts.

The first thing you need to do is to download the GarageBand app. Apple has made this app free for all iOS users a couple of years ago. When they decided to do this, lots of people were pleased with the announcement since they were able to enjoy the app without paying for it. This allowed them to create their own ringtone and text tones.

If you’ve never used GarageBand to make your own ringtone, here are the steps that you need to follow (assuming that you already have the GarageBand app on your device):

Step 1: Launch the app from your iPhone

Step 2: Swipe on the screen until you find the Audio Recorder option. Tap to choose this option.

Step 3: Look for the icon on the upper left portion of the screen that looks like a sheet of music. You can find it on the second option from the left top row. Tap on this icon.

Step 4: On the right, you’ll find a Record button. Tap on this.

Step 5: Again, on the right side of the screen, you’ll find a “+” icon. Tap on this.

Step 6: Select the option that reads Selection A. Toggle Automatic so that it is switched on. When you’re done with this, tap on Done.

Step 7: Tap on the loop icon and choose by Music. This is the part where you choose the track that you wish to convert into a ringtone.

Step 8: Once you’ve selected the track that you want to use, tap and hold it. The next step will return you to the timeline view so keep holding the track until you see this on your screen. Transfer the track to the start of the timeline and let go of the screen. This action signifies that you have imported the entire track.

Step 9: Since you can only use a few seconds of the track as your ringtone, you need to cut down the song to 30 seconds. If you are creating a text tone, you have to cut the track down to 4 seconds.

Step 10: If you wish to change the length of your recording, you can find the portion of the track you wish to use and drag the seeker at the top of your timeline to a preferred starting point. You will then need to double tap on the track and choose Split. A scissor icon will appear over the track. You can hold and swipe this icon downwards so you can cut the track. The items that you no longer need for the ringtone can be double tapped and deleted.

Step 11: Once you’ve cut the track that you wish to use as your ringtone, you can tap and hold it to move it to the start of the timeline.

Step 12: You will then have to save the ringtone that you made. To do this, choose the arrow that faces downward and choose My Songs. Once you have saved the track, you can tap and hold it again before choosing the share icon. Choose the destination as Ringtone and give it a good name. And with that, your ringtone is almost ready to go.

Once you’ve done this, you can already choose the track as your ringtone. You can do this by heading to your Settings app on your iPhone and pick out the track you just made.

By creating your own ringtone, you no longer have to worry if you encounter other people who have the same device as you. The ringtone you have will be a good way to customize your iPhone and let it stand out from other people with the same model.

If you’re ready to create your ringtone, what song do you have in mind? Are you ready to make more than one? Let us know in the comments below.
