iOS 8.0.2 Released With Touch ID and Cellular Fixes

iOS-8.0.2-update

After Wednesday’s fiasco with iOS 8.0.1 breaking thousands of users phones,  Apple has finally pushed iOS 8.0.2 to the public.  In this release they’ve fixed several major bugs such as being unable to use Touch ID and having no cellular capabilities.  These bugs were only present with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

iOS 8.0.2 also brings a ton of other fixes such as Health app capabilities,  reachability reliability,  and much more.

Here’s Apple’s official change log:

  • Fixes an issue in iOS 8.0.1 that impacted cellular network connectivity and Touch ID on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
  • Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
  • Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
  • Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
  • Better support of Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
  • Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
  • Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari

iOS 8.0.1 only impacted iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who updated early on.  Several hours later Apple had pulled the update.  Making the update no longer available.  Luckily,  Apple was still signing iOS 8.0,  so you were able to restore your devices to the previous version.  They had also left this handy guide for those of us who are not tech savvy.

Apple to @CNBCJosh: Less than 40,000 iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices were impacted by yesterday’s iOS 8.0.1 bugs.

Lots of users are taking precaution when updating to this newer firmware.  Rest assured iOS 8.0.2 is safe to update.  And there aren’t any noticeable bugs with the software.

Apple has had a pretty tough week.  With the lack of iPhone supply,  iOS 8.0.1,  and the whole #BendGate non-issue.  Hopefully,  though,  this will put the end to all of this madness.
