Recently, the first Made-For-iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch (MFi) flash drive was introduced to the public. Using a built-in Lightning connector, the device is able to function just like a typical flash drive should on Apple devices. Created by a company called Hyper, the device is not yet available as it is still undergoing a funding campaign on Kickstarter. If you’re interested in being among the first to own the device, however, you can choose to pre-order on the website.
Having worked on this product for more than two years, Hyper only recently received the approval of Apple. ‘As expected, Apple had many concerns for iOS storage products like the iStick. We actually started MFi application for this product more than 2 years ago. It was definitely not an easy process but we managed to address all of Apple’s concerns and finally just got MFi approval.’
A standard USB connector will be available with the Lightning connector on the iStick USB flash drive. For functionality, the device runs with an accompanying app that enables its users to transfer content between devices. Additionally, the iStick enables users to stream movies, music, and open filed directly on the flash drive without the need to copy it to the iOS device.
According to Hyper, prices for their iStick file storage product will be sold for $129 (8GB), $169 (16GB), $199 (32GB), and $299 (64GB). For those who fund their campaign on Kickstarter, however, will get a 50% discount; turning prices of the device to just $65 (8GB), $85 (16GB), $99 (32GB), and $149 (64GB).
The flash drive will start shipping on August. Read more about the specs of the device here.
