Keep Jailbreak or update
Should Apple users Keep Jailbreak or Install iOS 10.1.1 is definitely on iOS users minds today. We have received several questions relating to this topic. In order to try to answer this I will share some of the pros and cons of each as well as some of the info we have learned through social media. If you are currently jailbroken and want to keep your jailbreak do not upgrade today as of December 18, 2016, there is no iOS 10 jailbreak available at this time.
The Big question we are going to try to answer is should Apple users keep current jailbreak or install iOS 10.1.1. This will technically be an upgrade for anyone currently jailbroken because they will be running something older than iOS 10 in order to be jailbroken. If you wait until Apple stops signing iOS 10.1.1 firmware the hope of having the first iOS 10 jailbreak is out the window. This doesn’t mean you will never be able to jailbreak but you will have to wait. This issue will play a huge role in determining whether to install iOS 10.1.1 on your device or keep the jailbreak you have. Apple has really got us by the balls so to speak.
Keep Jailbreak or Update Firmware
What does all this mean?? If you miss the Apple firmware signing window you will lose chance of getting a jailbreak on iOS 10.1.1. You might get a jailbreak on a different firmware but the first iOS 10 jailbreak is gone.
However, Lucas Todesco recently stated if users wish to jailbreak iOS 10 they would need to downgrade to iOS 10.1.1. Now if you are currently running iOS 10.2 you will need to follow our guide to downgrade. Users who aren’t updated to iOS 10.2 yet still need to be sure you are running iOS 10.1.1 and not iOS 10.1.. These are to different firmware updates. So to check your firmware version go under settings > about toward the bottom of the screen you will see ‘version’. It will show your iOS devices firmware version here. Now if you plan to downgrade you need to be sure you download the right iPSW firmware to have a successful downgrade. All this info can be found in our recent tutorial for downgrading iOS 10.2. Be sure to check it out.
Now, if you not using a tweak which you absolutely must have in order to get by you probably should consider keeping your jailbreak.
Should I Update
The new firmware update to iOS 10 is awesome in itself and brings several added features we have seen in the jailbreak community for a long while. So it’s obvious Apple is taking notes. But that’s a different topic.
Reasons to update
- great new features on iOS 10
- preparing device for iOS 10 Jailbreak
- have a device running iOS 10 jailbroken soon
- based on what we have seen online the wait shouldn’t be very long until we get an iOS 10 Jailbreak
- update to keep from missing the Apple signing firmware issue
Reasons to keep jailbreak
- keep all your tweaks
- keep your Winterboard Theme
This can really get to be quite frustrating to say the least. One thing I want you to think about is all the tweaks I have wanted since the iOS 9 jailbreak was released, I couldn’t install them on my iOS 8 jailbreak. So in a sense I have been on the other side. It was truly frustrating too. I caught myself not really using anything jailbreak related for the most part besides a couple tweaks such as fiveicon dock to name one of my favorites and a few others. So keep that in mind.
I’m certain there are hundreds of different reasons and opinions that users will see differently. Feel free to sound off in the comments section below.
