Dong Nguyen

A few months ago, Flappy Bird mania took over the devices of Apple owners. Its immense success, however, was cut short unexpectedly when its developer, Dong Nguyen, decided to pull out the app from the App Store last February. With plenty of reports on addicted players taking the game too seriously, Nguyen had no choice but to put an end to it. This led to a number of developers copying the format of the game, trying to amass the same amount of success that the original Flappy Bird obtained overnight.

“Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed,” Nguyen said at the time. “But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever.”

Earlier this week, Nguyen confirmed with CNBC’s Kelly Evans of his plans to relaunch the game on the App Store in August. Promising a better and bigger version, Nguyen claims that the game will have ‘less addictive’ qualities and a multiplayer mode.

As of this writing, there is no definite word on what Nguyen could mean by a ‘less addictive’ game. We’ll have to wait for further developments and reports to confirm the changes that could take over this much loved game.
