If you’ve recently been trying to update your MacBook’s OS X software and you’ve encountered an error, it has something to do with Apple’s SSL certificate expiry. The Apple SSL Certificate is considered as an essential part of verifying and authenticating the connections to Apple’s Mac App Store software update servers. Unfortunately, this has recently expired; which is why users who have been trying to update their OS X software encounter such issues on their attempts. Apart from expiring, another error notification directs to the swscan.apple.com server as an issue.
After searching for the SSL certificate, it appears like the SSL certificate expired last May 24th. While this may be a problem when updating OS X software, it is not an issue on third-party app updates. One way to get rid of the problem on these third-party apps is to dismiss the error and update apps. For official Apple updates, however, the issue seems to be far more deeper than just this easy fix.
With these app updates available on Apple’s website, there might be something going on that Apple needs to focus before anything else. Even though the SSL expiration may be a likely culprit, there may be an issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Sources have already reached out to Apple to get an update on the problem and hopefully resolve it as soon as possible. And until further updates are released, we’ll have to wait for more information from them.
