Somewhere in the craziness after Apple’s keynote yesterday, Apple has quietly posted their new iCloud pricing on its iCloud page yesterday. Storage go anywhere from 5GB to 1TB.
The pricing is competitive but still has the ‘Apple tax’ everyone loves. For example, Dropbox and Google Drive is offering it’s 1TB of its cloud based storage for $9.99/month. Comparatively, Apple is charing $19.99 for the same amount of storage. It’s worth noting iCloud Drive is restricted to a specific list of devices, while Dropbox and Google Drive are both cross-platform.
iCloud Drive should appeal to those who’ve trashed Apple over the years. With lack of drag-and-drop, or basic file support. iCloud Drive will work with iOS 8, OS X Yosemite, and the company has recently sent out a beta for Windows users. iCloud Drive will soon work (we assume), on the web as well.
Though Apple has posted the pricing, they have yet made it available for the public. We assume this pricing will be available when iOS 8 is released. Though its totally possible Apple is waiting for OS X Yosemite to release to allow this new pricing.
iOS 8 will be released to the public on September 17th, and OS X Yosemite will be available to the public presumably next month.
Will the new iCloud pricing move you away from traditional cloud based services like Dropbox or Google Drive?
