Black Friday is only a few days away and it has already got everyone excited. Not only are the stores getting busy preparing for their big Black Friday sale but shoppers are also on the verge of filling out their wish lists. Since everyone already knows what Black Friday means, it’s no longer a surprise why many establishments are using this time to show their support for charity groups.
Just recently, Apple announced that they will be supporting World AIDS Day 2014 in line with their Black Friday promotion. For years, the company has supported this time of the year signifying their RED program. With the new promotion, Apple will be donating a portion of their proceeds to the Global Fund to fight AIDS.
As announced recently, online and retails sales made between Black Friday and Cyber Monday from the App Store’s new Apps for (RED) section will be contributed to the global fund. Based on the report, Apple will be donating proceeds from sales based on the current 25 apps on this specific App Store section as long as they were made from November 24 to December 7. Such apps that will be participating on this promotion include the following:
- Angry Birds
- Clash of Clans
- Clear
- Cut the Rope 2
- FIFA 15
- GarageBand
- Star Walk
- Threes
In addition to this, customers will also be provided by Apple with a (RED)-branded gift card during Black Friday. The gift card will be based on their purchase of select products. At the same time, an undisclosed percentage of each sale will be donated.
Apple’s official press release regarding the campaign follows:
“Apple is a proud supporter of (RED) because we believe the gift of life is the most important gift anyone can give,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “For eight years, our customers have been helping fight AIDS in Africa by funding life-saving treatments which are having a profoundly positive impact. This year we are launching our biggest fundraising push yet with the participation of Apple’s retail and online stores, and some of the brightest minds in the App Store are lending their talents to the effort as well.”
As of this writing, Apple has already added a dedicated page on its website to support the charitable campaign in time for Black Friday. Are you planning to download any of the games on their list? Make sure to get the app during the promotion period so you can do your part in contributing to their cause.
