AT&T has stated beginning next week they will implement a new service for locking stolen idevices. Many people have been wondering when it would occur. The “Find my iPhone/mac/ipad” is a great service but this takes it to the next level. Maybe by implementing this service it will deter thieves from trying to steal our expensive and luxurious idevices. I am all for making a paper weight from stolen devices.
The Verge reports:
The company sent a message (pictured below) to customer service representatives on Wednesday advising them of the change. According to the guidance, AT&T will compile a “blocklist” of stolen devices and service will be automatically suspended “if any attempt is made to use a device that is stored in the blocklist.” The only way to add a device to the list will be by contacting a customer service representative directly, and users with remote data wipe apps will be required to activate them before suspending their device, to “prevent access to their personal information.”
Hopefully other companies will get onboard and create the same type service. All Apple customers regardless of the provider can benefit from the stolen iphone service. The photo above was an email sent to all the service reps last week at AT&T. Let me know what you think about this action. Are you in favor????
