For many iPhone users, waiting for the latest iOS update is like waiting for the next type of candy that will be released by its manufacturer. Especially since Apple has been noted to come up with some of the most exciting additions to the latest iOS update, it is easy to see why many have been looking forward to iOS 8.1. If you are an iOS user, you may have already seen the update made available to the public. The problem is, it is no longer available for users to upgrade to.
Just as quickly as the day it was released, the iOS 8.1 update has been stopped by Apple. If you lived under a rock the whole time it was released, there is no way for you to upgrade to it anymore. At the same time, you may no longer downgrade to this iOS update. Instead, you have no choice but to directly download iOS 8.1.1 on your device.
If you wish you could turn back time and go back to the day that Apple released the software update, you don’t need to Dr. Emmett Brown to help build you a car that could travel through time. Just like the iOS 8.1 update, the latest iOS 8.1.1 firmware can be jailbroken too. With this, you can enjoy the features of the OS and not worry about limiting yourself to the options that are only available to you.
In order to check iOS 8.1’s signing status, you simply need to visit the website IPSW.me/8.1. This will lead you to a page where ‘!’ icons are in red. Before Apple stopped signing of this iOS update, these icons used to contain a green check mark beside it.
The good thing about this is that this will only produce a few significant consequences on users that wish to have their device jailbroken. Apart from that, there would be a few mild inconveniences that may be experienced during this conversion. If you want to jailbreak your device, you may upgrade to iOS 8.1.1 and even use the TaiG tool for Windows so you can perform the jailbreak on your device.
Considering the fact that the upcoming iOS 8.2 beta update seems to break this TaiG jailbreak, it is best for iOS users to update their devices to iOS 8.1.1. Not to mention, MuscleNerd has confirmed that this would be a safe process to jailbreak your device using the TaiG tool.
However, if your device has already been jailbroken on iOS 8.1, you will have to make a decision whether or not you should upgrade to 8.1.1 or stay on your current firmware. On the other hand, if your device is not jailbroken and you are using a non-jailbreakable firmware, your only choice is to upgrade to iOS 8.1.1 if ever you want to jailbreak your device.
Considering it’s been a while since iOS 8.1.1 was introduced to the public, it was only a matter of time before Apple would close off the signing window of the firmware. Was this something that you anticipated as well? Let us know in the comments below.
