Recently, the vulnerability of iPhone users’ devices are being put to a test. After several celebrities’ nude photos leaked online, it is only understandable why many users would feel threatened about how secure their device truly is. Because of this, there are plenty who are cautious with the recent release of the iOS 8 update. Even though it promises to be the biggest update to Apple’s mobile operating system, there is still plenty of doubt about how safe users’ files can be.
With more and more people downloading the latest iOS update, users are discovering plenty of new features they can use to maximize their mobile usage. Especially now that the software has improved on its continuity, widgets and extensions, users are enjoying the update and believe it could very well live up to its claim as the biggest update ever.
But if you’re one of those who are still hesitating to update their device because of the growing privacy risks, there is good news to take care of this issue. Fast Company recently discovered a hidden add-on that is capable of addressing important privacy concerns of iOS users. By updating to the latest iOS 8 software, Apple has given its Safari mobile users an ability to alter their default search engine to DuckDuckGo. Considering it is referred to as a Google competitor, DuckDuckGo stands against unwanted privacy breaches and data collection. By using this as your default search engine, it won’t be able to track your IP address, share information, or even save your search history.
“It’s great to see Apple championing privacy by adding our anonymous search option to protect Safari’s users,” says DuckDuckGo founder Gabriel Weinberg, “Our primary goal remains unchanged: To deliver a search engine with smarter answers and real privacy to as many people as possible. Being part of Safari is a huge step in achieving this goal.”
If you wish to change your default search engine to DuckDuckGo on your iOS 8 device, here is a short guide that you can easily follow:
- Go to settings.
- Tap on: Safari > Search Engine > DuckDuckGo
It is good to see that Apple has provided an option for its users to keep their information secure. If you’re the type who wants to have a secure browsing experience, this option will work best for you.
