Every parent knows just how difficult it is to have a baby fall asleep. They have tried different ways to get their infant to sleep quickly by rocking them on their arms until they close their eyes. Often, this is not the quickest solution but it can be very effective– until the time the cradling stops and the baby realizes his parent has already fallen asleep too. In such instance, the baby starts crying once again; alerting his parent that he wants to be rocked to sleep once again.
Surprisingly though, babies don’t have a difficult time falling asleep in a moving car. And this is exactly what Ford has in mind when they built the genius MAX Motor Dreams crib.
Earlier today, Ford announced the new smart crib that mimics the motion of a moving vehicle that helps rock your baby to sleep. The crib comes in a rectangular shape and has a Ford motor similar to the ones found on the car manufacturer’s C-Max fleet. In addition to the motor, the crib has LED lights that are designed to resemble street lights of an evening drive. There is also an accompanying smartphone app for parents to use so they can produce engine sounds on the crib or even choose the type of car ride they want their infant to experience.
On its announcement, Ford explains that they spoke with parents for several years as they were desperate for a good night’s sleep. After discovering how a quick drive could help a newborn fall to sleep, they realized that this concept could work on a crib.
The Ford crib, however, is currently still a prototype. After receiving a lot of inquiries about the prototype, the company has started considering the idea of putting the smart crib into full-scale production. It still isn’t available in the market, although many are already looking forward to its release. Still, it’s interesting to see that a car company, such as Ford, has conceptualized an idea that could help parents throughout the world.
