iOS 9 is here and it promises to be the best iOS software when it launches. But for any reason that you find iOS 9 Beta a bit too intimidating and would like to downgrade to iOS 8, here’s a how-to guide that will help you out. With this downgrade guide, you’ll revert back to iOS 8.3 (at the time of writing).
Note: Before you attempt to downgrade your OS, make sure you backup all your information so you don’t lose anything important.
Step #1: Click here to download the latest iOS 8 firmware (iOS 8.3). You’ll only be able to restore your device to iOS 8.3, which is the latest firmware Apple is signing at the time this article was published.
Step #2: Open iTunes from your dock.
Step #3: Enter DFU Mode on your device. You can do this by following this guide on how you can put your device into DFU mode.
At the same time, press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button. Do this for about 10 seconds before you release the Sleep/Wake button. Keep on holding the Home button until iTunes pops up a message instructing you that it was able to detect an iPhone in recovery mode. Your iPhone screen will remain black at this point.
Step #4: Hold down the Alt/Option key (In Windows computers, this is the Shift command) and click on the button that says Restore iPhone…
Step #5: On the same window, choose the firmware file you downloaded at the start of this guide. Click on the Open button.
If you are asked to confirm the restore, simply click on Restore.
Step #6: Your iTunes will go into restore/downgrade mode. This will take about 10-15 minutes until your device will be fully restored to iOS 8.
