iPhone-Firmware

The long awaited untethered jailbreak which Pod2G and the Dev-Team have been avidly working to prepare is just around the corner.   Many iOS users are wanting to know what they should do to prepare for the upcoming jailbreak.  The upcoming 5.1.1 jailbreak Pod2G has been developing will be an untethered jailbreak using Absinthe version 2.0.  Therefore, it has been recommended and suggested to upgrade your firmware to version 5.1.1 for the New iPad only.  However, this only applies to the new iPad only.  The A5 portion of the jailbreak will support iOS 5.1.1 on the iPad 2, new iPad, and iPhone 4S.  All other devices may support other firmware versions.

If you are running firmware 5.0 .1 all the new iPhone for AES which is currently jail broken, do not upgrade if you plan to keep your jailbreak currently.  You will have to upgrade your firmware during the jailbreak 2 5.1.1 to use the absent tool by iPod 2G.  But if you plan to keep your device jail broken at this time I would continue running 5.0 .1.  If you want to save yourself some time you could go ahead and download the firmware for the iPhone 4S for version 5.1.1.  This will save you download time later.

One thing that many users overlook during a new jailbreak is backup their device.  Always, always back up your device before a jailbreak any time.  So I would suggest you do that now to save yourself time during for the initial new jailbreak.  It’s also very important that you use TinyUmbrella to save your SHSH blobs.  Many users argue that since iOS 5 TinyUmbrella is no longer necessary to save your blobs but I rather have them and not need them as need them and not have them.

So if you don’t know how to use tiny umbrella I have several videos on my Youtube channel: iPhone4Noob that will walk you through each step showing how to save blobs.  If you don’t have your blobs you cannot downgrade your firmware anymore.   It is imperative to save your blobs for any firmware version you may have.  So if it were me and I was running version 5.0 .1 on the iPhone 4S I would save the blobs before upgrading firmware or jail breaking either one.  Here’s a list below showing what you need to do to prepare for the upcoming jailbreak.

How To Prepare For upcoming jailbreak

  1. Backup all devices you plan to jailbreak
  2. Save with tiny umbrella
  3. If you plan to jailbreak your new iPod.  Upgrade the firmware to version 5.1.1.  If you plan to jailbreak your new iPhone 4S that is currently running firmware 5.0 .1 which is jail broken, download the firmware and save it to the desktop of your Mac or PC.  This can save you some time during the initial jailbreak.

Good luck Jailbreaking and if you need any help or tips feel free to ask.
