Here’s one more reason why you should get iOS 8—the newly updated Photos app makes it easier for you to do post processing on your photos. Thanks to the new addition of editing extensions, you won’t have to rely on third party apps to improve your photos. Realizing the need to improve its Photos app, Apple has given developers an ability to extend it using app extensions.
For users, they can now easily edit photos through the built-in adjustments that have been incorporated into the app. Once a photo has been chosen and dropped into editing mode, a simple tap on a button will bring up the composition tools. This mode will automatically attempt to straighten and crop images that weren’t framed perfectly.
The updated Photos app also has a new smart adjustments feature, wherein a ‘smart slider’ enables the user to preview the image through a range of values. To alter the look of the image, the photo simply needs to go through the smart slider. As you slide, the app automatically adjusts values such as exposure, contrast, brightness and saturation.
Following Instagram’s filters, the newly updated Photos app also offers a selection of built-in filters for user to choose from. The good news for this is that these filters also come with its own editing tools extension so users are not limited to default filter options.
Just like the other extensions available on iOS 8, photo editing extensions must have a parent app to be installed. To make them available on your device, you simply need to tap on an icon on the lower right of your Photos app and choose the ‘More’ button. This is where you can enable the extensions.
By providing these services to iOS 8 users, Apple has made it a lot more convenient for users to enjoy their Photos app. They no longer have to leave the app and open another just so they can edit their photos. With the help of the newly updated Photos app, users can simply do everything they need on one place. If you haven’t updated your device to iOS 8, this just might be the reason you’re waiting for!
