Mac owners have recently been bothered by a security glitch which appears to come from the Mac App Store. Originally spotted by Paul Haddad, a Tweetbot developer, the problem enforces Mac users to download and reinstall certain apps on their device. Among affected Mac apps include Call of Duty 2, 1Password, Tweetbot, Byword, Acorn, and DaisyDisk.
According to those who have encountered the glitch, they are prompted with a message saying their app is damaged and cannot be opened. With this, they are advised to download the app once again from the Mac App Store.
If you have been affected by this security glitch, don’t fret! There is still something you can do to fix the problem. Follow these steps:
- Launch App Store app on your computer and go to the Featured tab. Open your Account and choose Sign Out. After a while, sign back into the Store with your Apple ID.
- Delete affected apps and reinstall them.
- Restart your computer.
- Attempt to force-quit Mac App Store.
As noted by Haddad, the glitch on these apps may have something to do with an expired receipt for authentication certification. In response to this, Apple has issued a series of new certificates with an April 2035 expiry date. Unfortunately, this hasn’t done anything to get rid of the error.
Apple has not yet responded to any questions regarding this issue but hopefully, we’ll receive word from them soon. Is your device affected by the glitch?
