Swype Third Party Keyboard App for iOS

Swype

For the longest time, iPhone users grew jealous over Android users’ ability to easily swipe on their keyboards and type quickly.  But with the launch of the iOS 8 update, Apple finally made this feature available to users through the help of third party keyboard apps.  With its release, numerous websites started offering their own suggestions for the best third party keyboard apps for the iPhone.  But if there’s one app that can be found on a majority of these suggestions, it would be Swype keyboard.

Originally available for Android devices, Swype developers wasted no time in creating a version applicable for the iOS framework.  So when Apple announced that Swype was among the third party keyboards available, it’s no longer a surprise why it received a number of downloads.

Using it on the iPhone feels somewhat similar to its Android version.  However, it does have a very iOS stock theme and feel to it.  Fortunately, there are 5 more options to choose from so you’re not limited to the standard iOS keyboard feel.  Just like the Android version, its glide and prediction typing work really well. Its prediction box, however, feels very cramped on a 4-inch screen.  While it is possible to switch to landscape mode, it may be better to these apps on an iPad or an iPhone with a larger screen.

The good thing about using Swype keyboard is that it presents several options to its user.  While there is the standard QWERTY keyboard, it does come with Swype customizations.  By holding on the Swype key on the keyboard’s bottom left, three options will be presented.  This is the location of the globe switcher button, number pad, and options menu.

Under options, you can choose the theme, ask to add dictionary words, toggle auto-correction, choose languages, and even view the words you have manually added in your personal directory.  If you would like to change the theme, you can choose from the light (default), dark, planetary dark themes, and one with a sandy beach background.  The languages available include English, German, Spanish, French, and Italian.  Switching between these requires holding the space bar.

Just like its original version, Swype does pretty well as a third party keyboard app on the iPhone.  If you plan on using such keyboards, you’ll do well by choosing Swype.  You can purchase Swype app for $0.99. It is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices running on iOS 8.0 or later.
