Apple may have released the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus recently but if there’s anything the public is looking forward to, it would definitely be the Apple Watch. Especially since this is the newest device that the brand is coming out with, it’s no longer a shock why many are excited for its release date.
Showcasing the Apple Watch at an exclusive event back in September, very few things have been revealed about the device. And just like the artistic piece that it is, the Apple Watch was locked behind a glass during the event. Beside it was a UI video loop that displayed just what the Apple Watch could do. Among those in attendance during the (very) exclusive event were Apple executives, celebrities and some fashion industry experts: Jony Ive, Marc Newson, Sarah Andelman, and Anna Wintour.
While very little was revealed about the device, event attendees are saying that it could be launched in January. Considering Apple was officially quoted with an ‘early 2015’ release, there are many who believe this could be the big date.
According to a Chinese website called Feng, reports say otherwise. Based on reports gathered by Taiwanese media, Apple is planning to launch the Apple Watch in February. As a matter of fact, the information states that Apple would already be ‘lucky’ if they could release the smartwatch on Valentine’s Day.
One of the possible reasons behind this delay could be because of the constraints of the GTAT sapphire output, which means the Apple Watch will only be available in a limited number. This could most possibly cause a shortage on the higher end versions, namely the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition. For the Apple Watch Sport, however, this would not be a problem since it does not use sapphire technology.
Whether or not sapphire is to blame for the Apple Watch’s delay, Apple does need to finish developing the smartwatch’s internal components. Considering that in past events the Apple Watch was only showcased through a non-interactive video, Apple just may be working on the device’s software and hardware. Past reports have also noted that Apple is working hard to improve the smartwatch’s battery longevity. This just might be the case.
If you’re looking forward to getting the Apple Watch, you may just have to stay put with your iPhone devices at least just for a few months. As soon as it becomes available, we’ll be sure to let you know!
